Thursday 11th November 2010 Hosted by CSIRO at their Lindfield facility in Sydney
How will science and technology (and society and psychology?) determine the urban transport infrastructure of the far future? It's not about “green” energy/fuels - that's been done to death elsewhere. Assuming that propulsion has been dealt with, how will our urban transport infrastructure appear in a couple of decades or more from now? At the very least, the choice to speed will have been taken away with electronically governed cars, but will they fully drive themselves? Before you shout "No! Never!", think forward to my 70th birthday in 2037 when society may give me a choice: either get off the roads or buy a self-driving car. The ageing population could be the biggest driver in driving.
The program will explore the range of possible futures for cars as well as all forms of public transport.
Student Research Poster competition with $1000 first prize – be entertained by the ever popular “speed sell” session where each student promotes their research – in 60 seconds!! |
